1. SUPPLICATION: Asking For Something.
2. PRAYERS: Broad Word For All Communication With God.

Most Christians Find It Easy To Pray For Their Family, Friends,

PRAYING FOR THE EMPEROR NOT TO THE EMPEROR.
We Should Give Thanks For Those Who Are In Authority.
Because God Has Ordained Government To Keep Social Order.

That We May Lead A Quiet And Peaceable Life.
That We May Lead A Life In All Godliness And Reverence.
C. THE GOAL OF PRAYER: ALL MANKIND TO BE SAVED.

2. MEN AND WOMEN IN THE CHURCH.

As Followers Of Jesus, Our Character And Orderliness Must Conform To The Lord’s Demands.
DEMANDS FOR MEN IN THE CHURCH.

A. THE ROLE OF MEN IN LEADING IN CHURCH.
DEMAND #1: REMINDER: IN THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH:
MEN ARE TO BE PRAYERFUL, WORSHIPPING THE LORD IN
LIVES OF PURITY AND PEACE.
A. That The Men Pray Everywhere:
This Has The Idea Of Every Church Service Or Meeting.
But Not The Idea Of Outside The Church Services.
Paul’s Focus Is Services Or Meetings.
Everywhere:
The Directions Apply To Every Church Without Exception.
No Allowance Is To Be Made For The Locality.
B. That The Men:
Men Would Take The Lead At Meetings Of The Congregation.
The Lifting Up Of Hands Was Common Prayer Posture.
This Text Speaks Of Men Leading Public Prayer.
The Idea Of The Text:
The Ministers Of Public Prayer:
Must Be The Men Of The Congregation, Not The Women.
C. Lifting Up Holy Hands:
HANDS THAT ARE LIFTED UP MUST BE HOLY.
HOLY HANDS Is A Metaphor As Your Hands Can Not Be Holy.
THE METAPHOR:
Hands That Are Set Apart Unto God.
Hands That Are Not Given Over To Evil.
Hands That Are Clean.
Hands That Are Indicating A Pure CONSCIENCE.
The Early Church Took Over The Jewish Attitude Of Prayer,
Which Was To Pray Standing,
With Hands Outstretched.
With The Palms Upwards.
The Jews Had Always Known
About The Barriers
Which Kept A Man's Prayers
From God.
Isaiah Heard God Say To The People:
"When You Spread Forth Your Hands,
I Will Hide My Eyes From You;
Even Though You Make Many Prayers,
I Will Not Listen; Your Hands Are Full Of Blood"
(Isa.1:15).
“He That Hath Clean Hands And A Pure Heart;
Who Hath Not Lifted Up His Soul Unto Vanity,
Nor Sworn Deceitfully”.
(Psalm 24:3–4).
IT IS POSSIBLE FOR US TO HAVE CLEAN HANDS
BUT NOT HAVE A PURE HEART.
D. Without Wrath And Doubting:
Such Prayers Must Be Without Wrath.
Such Prayers Must Be Without Doubt.
ANGRY FAITHLESS PUBLIC PRAYING.
OBVIOUSLY HARMFUL TO THE MISSION OF THE CHURCH.
DEMANDS FOR WOMEN IN THE CHURCH.

B. THE FOCUS FOR WOMEN: SPIRITUAL PREPARATION.
VERSES 9-10.
DEMAND #2: REMINDER: IN THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH:
WOMEN ARE TO BE MODEST IN APPEARANCE AND ADORNED
IN GOOD WORKS.
CONTEXT:
EVERYWHERE: IN ALL CHURCHES IN ALL OF THE WORLD.
MODERATION.
APPROPRIATELY.
NON SENSUALLY.
DRESS REFLECTS THE HEART.
DRESS SPEAKS TO ATTITUDE.
A BETTER MORE PROPER FORM OF ADORNMENT:
WEAR YOUR GOOD WORKS AS VALIDATION OF YOUR FAITH.
C. WOMEN ARE TO SHOW SUBMISSION IN CHURCH.
VERSES 11-12.
DEMAND #3: REMINDER: IN THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH:
WOMEN ARE TO LEARN QUIETLY IN SUBMISSIVENESS.
LET A WOMAN LEARN IN SILENCE: WITHOUT CONTENTION.
WITH SUBMISSION INSTEAD OF CONTENTION IN CHURCH.
SUBMISSION IS THE PRINCIPLE:
To Learn In Silence Describes The Application Of The Principle.
With All Submission: TO BE UNDER IN RANK.
Respecting An Acknowledged Order Of Authority.
ARE MEN MORE SPIRITUAL THAN WOMEN ? OF COURSE NOT.
ARE WOMEN INFERIOR TO MEN ? OF COURSE NOT.
THE POINT:
DIFFERENT LEVELS OF AUTHORITY FOR ORDERLINESS.
DEMAND #4: REMINDER: IN THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH:
WOMEN ARE NOT TO FUNCTION OVER MEN AS TEACHERS.
WOMEN ARE NOT TO FUNCTION OVER MEN IN AUTHORITY.
DO NOT PERMIT A WOMAN TO HAVE AUTHORITY OVER A MAN:
This Meaning Is Very Clear.
UNDER AUTHORITY IS THE PRINCIPLE.
Not Teaching Is An Application Of This Principle.
Paul Is Saying That The Church Should Not Recognize Women
Those Having Authority In The Church Regarding Matters Of
Doctrine And Scriptural Interpretation.
WHATEVER SPEAKING OR TEACHING IS DONE BY A WOMAN
IT MUST BE DONE IN SUBMISSION TO THE MEN THAT GOD HAS
APPOINTED TO LEAD THE CHURCH.
CLEARLY: THE BIBLE SAYS THERE IS A DIFFERENCE IN ROLES.
THE POINT:
DIFFERENT ROLES AND DIFFERENT RESPONSIBILITIES.
DISRESPECT FOR AUTHORITY IN THE WORLD IS ATTACKED.
CITIZENS VS. GOVERNMENTS.
STUDENTS VS. TEACHERS.
WOMEN VS. MEN.
CHILDREN VS. PARENTS.
EMPLOYEES VS. EMPLOYERS.
PEOPLE VS. POLICE.
DISRESPECT FOR AUTHORITY IN THE CHURCH IS ATTACKED.
GOD DESIGNED THIS AUTHORITY STRUCTURE HIS WAY NOT OURS.
AN ATTACK ON AUTHORITY IN THE CHURCH IS SINFUL.
ALL OF US NEED TO RESPECT AUTHORITY IN THE CHURCH.
THIS IS ALSO EXPECTED IN THE COMMUNITY AS WELL.
ULTIMATE PURPOSE:
SO THAT ALL MANKIND MAY BE SAVED.
SO THAT THERE IS ORDER NOT CHAOS IN OUR LIVES.
PAUL'S FOCUS:
The Public Worship Of The Church.
God Has Established A Clear Chain Of Authority.
In Both The Home And In The Church.
God Has Ordained That Men Are The HEAD.
They Have The Place Of Authority And Responsibility.
The Failure Of Men To Lead In The Home And In The Church.
The Failure Of Men To Lead In The Way Jesus Would Lead.
D. GOD’S RECOGNITION OF MALE AUTHORITY IN THE CHURCH.
VERSES 13-15.
DEMAND #5: REMINDER: IN THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH:
WOMEN ARE TO DEDICATE SELF TO BUILDING UP A HOME.
A. For Adam Was Formed First:
The First Reason For Male Authority In The Church Is Order Of
Creation. Adam (man) Was Created First, And Given Original
Authority On Earth.
B. The Woman Being Deceived:
The Second Reason Is The Difference In The Sin Of Adam And
Eve, As Connected To Their Difference In Authority.
Both Adam And Eve Sinned In The Garden Of Eden.
Eve Clearly Sinned First.
Yet, The Bible Never Blames Eve For The Fall Of Mankind.
But Always Blames Adam.
(Through One Man Sin Entered The World)
(Romans 5:12).
ADAM IS RESPONSIBLE:
Because There Really Is A Difference Of Authority.
Adam Had An Authority Eve Did Not Have.
WITH AUTHORITY COMES RESPONSIBILITY.
He Also Had A Responsibility That Eve Did Not Have.
Adam Failed In His Responsibility More Significantly Than Eve.
Eve Was Deceived.
Adam Was Not Deceived.
Eve Was Tricked.
But Adam Sinned Knowing It Was Rebellion.
This Means That Adam’s Sin Was Worse.
Eve, Being More Readily Deceived, It Made Her More Vulnerable.
More Vulnerable Means In More Danger.
BOTTOM LINE:
The LORD Established Authority And Responsibility.
THE PURPOSE:
Providing Clear Sound Guidance In The Church.
Preventing Chaos And Confusion Thru Roles Of Leadership.
Protecting Women From Danger And Deceit.
BUT REMEMBER THIS GREAT RESPONSIBILITY GIVEN BY GOD:
WOMEN WERE RESPONSIBLE FOR BRINGING JESUS INTO THE WORLD.
